Heyman: Yankees, Reliever Sergio Santos Agree To Minors Deal
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Yankees have agreed to a minor league deal with relief pitcher Sergio Santos, according to CBSSports.com/WFAN baseball insider Jon Heyman.
Santos, 31, was designated for assignment by the Dodgers on May 27. He ended up clearing waivers and became a free agent.
The right-hander appeared in 12 games for Los Angeles this season. He allowed seven earned runs on 13 hits in 13 1/3 innings pitched (4.73 ERA), striking out 15 and walking seven. Two of the 13 hits were home runs.
Santos has pitched for the White Sox and Blue Jays -- in addition to the Dodgers -- since breaking into the majors in 2010.
The Los Angeles native's best season came in 2011, when he saved 30 games for Chicago and pitched to a 3.55 ERA in 63 games.
According to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal, Santos will report to Double-A Trenton.
