Yankees' Rivera Not Concerned With Rehab Status
NEW YORK (WFAN) - Yankees closer Mariano Rivera would prefer to not know the status of his recovery from a torn ACL.
It has been rumored that the all-time saves leader could return to the Yankees before season's end, but Rivera told the New York Post that he isn't concerned with his rehab progression.
"I don't want to know (how my recovery is going) believe it or not," the five-time World Series Champion told the paper. "If (me coming back this season) it happens, I'll be OK. If it doesn't happen, I'll be a little disappointed. I just take it day by day."
The 12-time All-Star tore the ACL in his right knee on May 3 while shagging balls before a game at Kansas City's Kauffman Stadium. Many believed that Rivera's Hall of Fame-worthy career would be over, but he later vowed to return -- and continues to remain optimistic.
"(The rehab) is going great," he said. "I'm feeling good. Hopefully it keeps going like that. I just have to keep doing my job and try to do the best I can."
The 18-year veteran had knee surgery on July 12 and said it "went perfectly."
Rivera took a small break from his physical therapy to ring the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Wednesday morning to start another day of Wall Street trading.
"I'm excited, hopefully we have a nice day and the stock exchange will be up," Rivera said. "It's good (to have a break) but I don't want to get away from it."
