Yankees' Rivera Misses Day 2, Could Report Thursday
NEW YORK (WFAN/AP) — Closer Mariano Rivera has missed the New York Yankees' second day of workouts for pitchers and catchers to be with his sick children.
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Wednesday that Rivera may be in camp for the third day of spring training drills on Thursday.
"Maybe tomorrow," Cashman said.
He was 3-3 with a 1.80 ERA and 33 saves in 38 chances last season. The 11-time All-Star has 559 regular-season career saves, second to Trevor Hoffman's 601, and a record 42 in the postseason.
"Even when he's here, he's on a different program," Cashman said. "And obviously it's one that works."
The 41-year-old Rivera agreed to a $30 million, two-year contract in December.
