Yankees Release Preston Mattingly, Son Of Don

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The New York Yankees have released Preston Mattingly, who had agreed to a minor league contract in January.

The 24-year-old son of former Yankees star and current Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly had been playing for Double-A Trenton in spring training games.

The Yankees confirmed the move on Tuesday.

Mattingly hit .232 with five doubles, five home runs and 19 RBIs in 53 games last year with Class A Great Lakes and Rancho Cucamonga.

He was drafted by the Dodgers in 2006, then traded to Cleveland in September 2010. He was released by the Indians the following April and signed with the Dodgers. He became a six-year minor league free agent after the season.
