Yankees Make Donation To Red Cross Hurricane Isaac Relief Effort
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The New York Yankees are pitching in to help out with the Hurricane Isaac relief effort.
The team announced Sunday they will donate more than $25,000 to support the Red Cross Gulf Coast region relief effort associated with storm.
States of emergency were declared by the governors of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama as the storm approached the Gulf Coast.
Several areas of each state also qualify for federal disaster relief.
In a statement, New York Yankees General Partner and Vice Chairperson Jennifer Steinbrenner Swindal announced the organization's donation.
"On behalf of the entire New York Yankees organization, we are eager to extend our support to the people of the Gulf Coast region who were affected by Hurricane Isaac," the statement read. "The American Red Cross is again answering the call in the face of this disaster, and we are proud to assist in their tireless efforts."
Red Cross volunteers, including dozens from the Tri-State Area, have set up shelters across the Gulf Coast to assist those in need.
