Yankees First Baseman Mark Teixeira, Pitcher Ivan Nova Making Progress
TAMPA, Fla. (CBSNewYork/AP) — Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira says he could be ready to take on-field batting practice for the first time Friday since hurting his right wrist two months ago.
Also, Alex Rodriguez worked out for the second consecutive day at New York's complex in Tampa, Fla. Teixeira took batting practice indoors, ran and fielded grounders.
Pitcher Ivan Nova, out since late April because of tightness in his right triceps, expects to pitch two innings Wednesday in his first extended spring training game.
Catcher Francisco Cervelli, who broke his right hand 11 days ago, says the cast will be removed in three weeks.
Prior to being injured, Cervelli was batting .269 with three homers and eight RBIs in 52 at-bats.
Rodriguez is coming back from hip surgery in January. Teixeira was injured on March 5.
