Yankees Closer David Robertson Lands On DL With Strained Left Oblique
NEW YORK (WFAN) - Yankees closer David Robertson has been placed on the disabled list with a strained left oblique, the Yankees announced on Tuesday.
The 27-year-old -- who took over for Mariano Rivera when he tore his ACL and was lost for the season -- has been unavailable since Saturday with soreness in his left side, and received an MRI on Tuesday.
Right-handed pitcher Cody Eppley is listed on the Yankees' lineup card for the Bombers' contest against the Orioles on Tuesday night, WFAN's Sweeny Murti reported, and while his call-up has not been officially announced, it appears that he will replace Robertson on the club's 25-man roster.
Robertson has been excellent this season out of the bullpen for New York, though he has struggled in his brief stint since taking over for Rivera in the closer's role. The University of Alabama alum is 0-1 with a 2.51 ERA on the season, recording 24 strikeouts to just six walks. He is just 1-for-2 in save opportunities since assuming Rivera's role, however.
32-year-old right-hander Rafael Soriano will now likely assume the closer's duties for New York until Robertson returns to action.
Uh-oh, not good for the Bombers. Soriano gets the call now? Discuss in the comments section below...
