Yankees' Brian Cashman On Red Sox Position: 'I Have A Job Currently'
NEW YORK (WFAN/AP) -- The David Ortiz-to-New York debate is already raging.
With Yankees general manager Brian Cashman's contract expiring -- and Theo Epstein reportedly jumping ship from Boston to Chicago -- another will-he-or-won't-he discussion is certainly about to heat up.
When asked about the possibility of joining the Red Sox on Wednesday, Cashman told the New York Post: "I have a job currently."
Cashman's contract is up at the end of the month. He has said that he'd liked to remain in the job he has held since 1998.
Should Cashman stay, he'll have some big decisions to make. There's Jorge Posada, whose four-year contract is up, and CC Sabathia with his opt-out clause.
And now, Big Papi is apparently thinking about the Big Apple.
In Boston, it appears the 37-year-old Epstein is set to leave the Red Sox with a year remaining on his contract as general manager and take over what is expected to be an expanded role with the Cubs, who have gone 103 years without a World Series championship.
Radio station WEEI in Boston and WFAN's Jon Heyman cited unidentified sources in reporting that Epstein has agreed to a five-year deal.
The Cubs declined comment Wednesday and Red Sox officials could not be reached for comment. With Epstein at the helm, the Red Sox ended an 86-year World Series championship drought in 2004 and won the title again in 2007.
Is there any chance Cashman bolts for Boston? Yankees fans, be heard in the comments below...
