Woman Gives Birth To Baby Girl At World Trade Center PATH Station
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- This future straphanger was in a hurry!
A woman gave birth to a healthy girl at the World Trade Center PATH station.
The woman, her husband and their 2-year-old son were on their way to a hospital at around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, but the baby couldn't wait, according to Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police.
When police learned of the impending arrival, they quickly began preparing the concourse.
"We arrived and found her laying on the floor, complaining of severe abdominal pain," Officer Brian McGraw told 1010 WINS. "She told me that she was full term and due within the next few weeks."
McGraw determined the birth was imminent and delivered the baby. It was his second delivery on the job.
"You hear the baby crying, it's just an awesome feeling," McGraw said.
The newborn, Asenat Abdrabo, weighed 6 pounds, 14 ounces.
She and mom were taken to a hospital.
