Workers Discover 'Badly Decomposed' Remains Inside Suitcase In Yonkers

YONKERS, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- A gruesome discovery has some Yonkers residents in disbelief and authorities searching for answers.

Workers from the Yonkers Department of Public Works were clearing weeds and brush along Sprain Road on Monday and spotted a suitcase that contained remains, described by authorities as "badly decomposed flesh."

The workers said when they got closer to the suitcase they were able to smell a foul odor. In fact, officials said the remains were so decomposed they were unsure whether they were human.

A man named "Felix" lives nearby and said he was absolutely unnerved by the news.

"Oh my God...I live here for more than 10 years, I've never seen anything like this," he told 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria.

Earlier Monday, investigators were at the scene with K-9 and cadaver dogs sweeping the wooded, desolate area.

Authorities said the Westchester County Medical Examiner will do an examination of the remains on Tuesday.
