Work Under Way To Reopen Intrepid Museum Before New Year
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The Intrepid Museum has been closed since superstorm Sandy hit.

When the Hudson River surged over the pier, the electrical system was wiped out.
"And there was four to six feet of water that had flooded the entire bottom floor of the welcome center," said museum president Susan Marenoff-Zausner.
Up on the flight deck, the protective bubble surrounding the recently acquired space shuttle Enterprise was deflated.
"There is no doubt that we all deflated with it," she told WCBS 880 reporter Peter Haskell.
The shuttle itself also suffered minor damage to the vertical stabilizer.
"We're very lucky that it broke in a seam and so it's very easily repairable," she said.
The carrier itself was not damaged and the staff is hard at work, with the museum is expected to reopen by December 21.
