Woodmere Man Says Landscaping Crews Are Driving His Neighborhood Nuts With Noise
WOODMERE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A homeowner in Woodmere, Long Island said the noise from landscapers is driving him absolutely nuts.
Nick Cavallo lives on a quaint Woodmere street, in the Town of Hempstead. It's the kind of place where you can hear birds chirping in the trees.
But as CBS2's Valerie Castro reported, the municipal parking lot at the end of the quiet block is at the center of a noisy controversy.
Before the sun rose last Friday morning, Cavallo claims the noise from leaf blowers woke up his entire family. He recorded the disturbance on his cell phone.
"Friday was the straw that broke the camel's back, I guess. I just got fed up, walked out -- it was 5 o'clock," he said.
Cavallo said his family moved into the neighborhood for its peaceful feel, but the early morning noise has been an ongoing problem.
He complained to the town last year along with his neighbors. In the cell phone video Cavallo told the worker about his previous complaints.
"They said they were going to stop this, but apparently whoever the supervisor is, it didn't work," he said.
Cavallo said he understands the need to keep the lot clean, but at a different time of the day.
"If it was a private contractor of somebody else in the community doing it, there would be fines and things like that," he said.
When contacted by CBS2, Hempstead officials released a statement regarding the matter.
"The town is committed to being a good neighbor and is looking into the matter and will take appropriate action."
While Hempstead officials look into Cavallo's complaint, he said he'll be waiting to see if the problem starts back up again on Friday morning.
