Authorities: Two Women Found Floating In East River
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Authorities have identified the bodies of two women found floating in the East River.
Police say the body of Haydee Rivera, 50, was discovered Wednesday morning near North 5th Street and Kent Avenue in Brooklyn. The Brooklyn woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The body of Elba Santiago, 69, was then found floating about two miles away near the Metropolitan Avenue Bridge and Grand Street in East Williamsburg. Santiago, of Queens, woman had been reported missing Tuesday afternoon. She was also pronounced dead at the scene.
The Office of Chief Medical Examiner will determine how the women died.
Last year, another woman was found floating in the East River by East 23rd Street in March, and a man's body was discovered floating in the water near the Brooklyn Bridge in August.
