Woman's Naked, Charred Body Found On Brooklyn Shoreline
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police Sunday were investigating how a woman died, after her naked, charred body was found along the shoreline in Gerritsen Beach, Brooklyn.
NYPD detectives were at the scene on Sunday, scouring the area around Gerritsen Beach for evidence of how the woman died. They also were trying to determine her identity.
Police said the body was discovered just after 7 a.m. Sunday. The body was found at the south end of Gerritsen Avenue, police said.
"It's just a shame that they found this poor girl, you know, after all we've been through down here, and now we have more excitement," a neighbor said. "And you know, it's just a terrible thing. I just feel bad for the families. And I just hope to God that they'll find out who did it."
The area was hard hit by Superstorm Sandy on Oct. 29, but police say the death was not storm-related, since the body would have been decomposed if the woman had been dead that long.
The New York City Medical Examiner's office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of the woman's death, police said.
