Woman Struck By 5 Train After Fainting Onto Subway Tracks At 77th Street Station
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A woman died Wednesday after fainting and falling onto the subway tracks at 77th Street Station.
CBS 2's John Metaxas reported that a woman in her 20s apparently fainted and fell onto the tracks around 3 p.m. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Late Wednesday the woman was identified as 21-year-old Fatoumata Diallo, of the Bronx.
Earlier, trains were bypassing 77th Street Station in both directions. 1010 WINS' Al Jones reported the accident occurred when the woman was struck by a southbound 5 Train running on the 6 track.

The impact of the collision was so severe, it was felt by the passengers.

"I heard the impact...and right away we're like 'what happened? Somebody got hit,'" Subway rider Nicole Katzender said. "Every once in a while I go a little too close to the edge, but most of the time I stay back."
There is no word yet on what caused the woman to faint or whether Wednesday's hot and humid weather played any role.
