Woman Killed, 2 Men Injured In Newark Shooting
NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Authorities are investigating a shooting that left a woman dead and two men wounded in Newark.
Laqueebah Murray, 29, of Newark was shot near 78 North Munn Avenue around 11:35 p.m. Wednesday, officials said. She died shortly after at University Hospital.
Two men were also shot but survived, officials said.
Police evacuated a building where they believed the gunman might be hiding and blocked off several streets, CBS 2 reported.
No arrests have been made.
The investigation is ongoing.
The shooting came hours after the city announced plans to curb violence in the summer months.
The city is hiring civilians to secure the jails and answer 911 calls so nearly 200 uniformed police officers can be put back on patrol, targeting high crime areas overnight.
The city will also utilize a police helicopter equipped with infrared cameras to track large groups and drug activity.
A curfew will also be enforced from 10 p.m. on the weekdays and 11 p.m. on the weekends for anyone under 18 years old.
