Woman Gives Birth In L.I. Hospital Parking Lot
NEW YORK (1010 WINS/CBS 2) -- They say timing in life is everything, but one baby arrived a little early in New Hyde Park.
As Jodi-Ann Jones and and her partner Julian Bowen, of Rockaway Beach, were headed to the Cohen Children's Medical Center Tuesday for a regularly scheduled doctor's appointment, baby Carson decided to enter the world ahead of schedule.
As the couple pulled into the parking lot and looked for assistance, the valet parking attendant in the lot yelled for help, 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria reports.
With Bowen holding Jones' hand, two pediatric dentists responded and helped deliver the baby.
"I was able to pull out a little bit of the [umbilical] cord and unravel it from his neck," Dr. Loan Anh said.
Jones recalls being "very, very scared and nervous" during the entire episode.
Shortly thereafter, however, a Neonatal Intensive Care Physicians (NICU) team arrived at the scene. Jones was able to get some rest following the delivery and the baby was taken with his parents to the NICU.
3-day-old Carson is doing fine and ready to go home, D'Auria reports.
