Woman Dies In Late-Night Crash On Long Island
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – A woman died late Friday night after her car crashed into a parked car before knocking down utility poles and catching on fire on Long Island, police said.
Suffolk County Police said the woman was driving her 2006 Mercedes-Benz "at a high rate of speed" when she lost control of her car and struck a parked vehicle in West Babylon.
The car knocked down several utility poles before striking the gas pumps at an Ultra gas station. A fire followed, fully engulfing the vehicle and setting the gas station on fire.
The car was going northbound on Route 109 near the intersection of Golding Avenue when the accident happened.
West Babylon Fire Department responders extinguished the fire upon arrival and a physician assistant from the Medical Examiner's office pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
The investigation of the crash is ongoing.
