Woman Critically Injured In Long Island Hit-And-Run
MOUNT SINAI, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A woman was struck and critically injured Sunday in a hit-and-run accident in Suffolk County, and the search for the driver continued in the nighttime hours.
The accident happened around 11 a.m. on Canal Road, just west of Mount Sinai/Coram, Suffolk County police said. The woman who was injured might have been a jogger, police said.
When paramedics took the woman to Stony Brook University Hospital, she had no identification, police said. But police later verified her identity as Karen Benjamin, 56, of Coram.
Benjamin was unconscious when she was taken to the hospital, and was reported in critical condition, police said.
The car that struck Benjamin was described as a tan or light-colored midsized car. The driver fled the scene.
