Woman Critically Injured In Hit-And-Run Near Queens-Midtown Tunnel
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A woman was struck and critically injured in a hit-and-run at the mouth of the Queens-Midtown Tunnel Sunday, police said.
The 60-year-old woman was crossing 38th Street at Second Avenue when she was struck by a black sport-utility vehicle headed south at the tunnel around 10:30 a.m., police said.
The driver fled the scene, police said.
Witnesses said the woman was hit near the 56-story apartment building where she was staying and was dragged for one block.
"Police had her surrounded and they were trying to administer aid to her. She was moving, they had her in a neck brace," said one resident who saw her lying in the street.
Witnesses told 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria the victim was a live-in nanny, but the baby girl she nannys was not with her when she was struck.
The woman was taken to Bellevue Hospital Center in critical condition, police said.
