Woman Critical, Driver Under Arrest In Connection With Queens Hit And Run
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A woman was critically injured in a hit-and-run crash in the Richmond Hill section of Queens on Friday night.
Witnesses told CBS 2's Dave Carlin that they saw a black Toyota Camry speed away from the spot on 117th Street where Raj Kaur was struck.
The 57-year-old wife and mother of two children had been in the neighborhood to spend the evening at a friend's house. Instead, she ended up in the intensive care unit at Jamaica Hospital.
"I see this person laying down. I pick up my phone and call 911," Mahadeo Rambrich said.
Rambrich's actions helped paramedics arrive on the scene quickly, while a police officer on patrol in the area chased down the Toyota three blocks away. The driver of the Toyota, a 23-year-old male, was arrested in connection with the incident, Carlin reported.
"They drive reckless around here. Always reckless," Nick Persaud said.
Family members rushed to the hospital to be with Kaur, a native of Punjab, India., and pray for a miracle, Carlin reported.
