With Summer Heat, New York City Cracking Down On Open Hydrants
NEW YORK (WCBS 880) - On 167th Street, even the youngest in the spray from a sprinkler-capped hydrant say they know you shouldn't open the hydrant full-blast in the heat.
"Do you like running through the water coming out of the fire hydrant?" asked WCBS 880 reporter Paul Murnane of a young girl.

"Yes," answered the girl.
"Is it cold?" asked Murnane.
"No," she answered.
"Washington Heights, Community Boards 4 and 5 in the Bronx, you know, they're [at] high elevation, so there's a particular concern," said New York City Department of Environment Protection commissioner Cass Holloway.
He says teams are once again fanning out to spark a dialogue on the dangers of open fire hydrants.
O'Brien Ortega from the Bronx is on board HEAT - Hydrant Emergency Action Team.
"This is our mission," he told Murnane.
"Do you think you can change their minds?" asked Murnane.
"Yeah, definitely. 100 percent sure," he answered.
