With No Snow Days Used, New York City DOE Has Both Good News And Bad
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The good news is that students are going to get the snow days that weren't used this winter back.
The bad news, however, is that they will have to come back to school for a half-day afterward.
Department of Education officials said that the mild winter meant that they didn't use any snow days. As a result, they can cancel class on the last Monday and Tuesday of June. But since Wednesday, June 27th, is already the official last day of class, the kids have to come back for it.
There is no word on how many schools plan to cancel that Monday and Tuesday.
Some parents are less than thrilled about the revised schedule, complaining that it will prevent them from getting an early jump on vacations, due to what they claim is a useless half-day.
Teachers, on the other hand, will not get the time off. For them, the days are for professional-development time, which is meant to be used to prepare for changes for next year.
