Winter Weather Advisory In Effect Overnight For Suburbs; Expected Messy Morning Commute
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A blast of wintry weather headed for the Tri-State Area could make for a dangerous commute Wednesday morning.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory from midnight through 4 p.m. Wednesday. The advisory does not cover New York City, but it does cover many surrounding areas, including Westchester and Rockland counties; Bergen County, N.J.; and Fairfield County, Conn.
Snow, sleet and freezing rain could blanket portions of the lower Hudson Valley, northeastern New Jersey and southern Connecticut, according to the National Weather Service.

CBS 2's Lonnie Quinn reported areas north of Interstate 84 could see 3 to 5 inches of snow and maybe even a little more. The north New York metro area can expect 1 to 3 inches.
Snow and sleet were expected in New York City overnight, but with little to no accumulation, according to the NWS forecast.
Snow will be falling all around the area by 3 a.m. Wednesday and will be transitioning to rain by 7 a.m., and then be all rain by noon in New York City. But north of I-84, the precipitation will continue as snow throughout the midday hours.
The north metro area will see a rain-snow mix for the morning commute, and officials were warning that icy roads can be expected in Westchester and Rockland counties, police said.

The wet weather is forecast to end by midday on Wednesday, yielding to temperatures in the mid 30s.
