Wing Of Long Island Mall Evacuated Due To Smoky Conditions
WESTBURY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- The Roosevelt Field Mall on Long Island was partially evacuated Tuesday, after smoky conditions at a Macy's store.
Around 4:30 p.m., the Macy's wing of the mall was evacuated due to the smoky conditions at the mall in Westbury, which firefighters have since attributed to an electrical fire in the basement, CBS 2's Joe Biermann reported.
There were no reports of any injuries. As of 5 p.m., investigators were at the scene trying to determine how the fire got started.
This was the second time in two weeks that an emergency has affected the mall. On Sept. 25, the mall was placed on lockdown after a workplace shooting at the nearby Savenergy lighting-fixture import company.
The chief executive officer of the company, John Choi, was critically wounded in the shooting, police said. A second employee, Zachariah Yong Jae Shin, was killed.
The body alleged gunman – Sang Ho Kim, 63 – was found in the Hudson River five days later.
