Win Not Enough For Girardi; Errors Proving Costly For Yankees

NEW YORK (WFAN/AP) -- The Texas Rangers were celebrating and heading to their first World Series when the Yankees left town last October.

This time, the defending AL champions are trying to figure out how to get things back on track after a 12-5 loss Sunday.

Though so are the Yankees, who despite yesterday's win, have stumbled and bumbled in the field and on the basepaths since the calendar switched to May.

CC Sabathia (3-2) pitched into the seventh with a season-low two strikeouts while matching a season high with four walks, all of those in the first four innings. The big left-hander gave up five runs, three earned, and five hits while also committing two fielding errors.

"We did not play well early," Joe Girardi said after the game. "CC had two errors himself today. I told our club, 'We gotta stop making it so hard on ourselves. We're a good team, but we're making it hard on ourselves in those situations.'"

With their four errors on Sunday, the Yankees have chalked up a whopping nine Es on the scoreboard in the last four games.

"We are capable of playing better," said the Bombers' frustrated manager.

Sabathia walked three of the first eight batters he faced, though Texas got started when leadoff hitter Ian Kinsler reached on a throwing error by Rodriguez. The third baseman made a nice stop near the line, but his throw was well over the head of Mark Teixeira at first base.

"We are a much better defensive team than we have been this week," said Girardi. "I addressed that and our club knows it."
