Wildlife Rescuers Ask Volunteers To Stitch Mittens For Burned Koalas
SURRY HILLS, New South Wales, Australia (CBSNewYork) -- Wildlife rescuers have asked people to pull out their sewing machines to help koalas injured in wildfires in Australia.
Thousands of koalas have suffered burns in the wildfires, which have been sweeping through southern Australia. The slow-moving animals have singed their paws as they have tried to escape the flames.
Rescuers asked volunteers to stitch cotton mittens to cover koala bear bandages so they do not agitate their injury.
