Whitestone Resident Rachel Kim Prepares For Graduation From West Point
WEST POINT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - A Queens woman will be among those becoming a second lieutenant at United States Military Academy graduation ceremony this Saturday.
It's been a difficult four years at West Point, but, for Rachel Kim, now the real work begins.
"It's kind of daunting to really see how much we've gone through but yet so much to do in the future and so in that sense it's kind of maybe a bit intimidating as well," Kim told WCBS 880 reporter Peter Haskell.

She grew up in Whitestone and went to Stuyvesant High School, but now it's off Germany to be a finance officer.
"I'll be dealing with the Army's finances and the payments for the procurement systems," she said.
It has always been important to her to serve.
Growing up, she always heard stories from her father and grandfather, who served in the Korean military.
"The desire to serve has always been embedded in my upbringing," she said.
So, going to West Point seemed the natural course.
"A very different type of education that's offered at West Point, where it's more of a holistic, you know, moral, spiritual, academic, physical," she said. "Very humbled by the experience and very humbled by the responsibilities that we're about to assume."
