White Plains Movie Theater Cited After Complaints Of Possible Infestation
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A 15-theater multiplex in White Plains apparently has some unwanted guests.
Cinema de Lux in White Plains was cited for mice, lice and possibly bed bugs after mothers reported finding tiny bite marks on their children, according to the Journal News.
The Building Department investigated after receiving complaints of a possible infestation, Karen Pasquale, senior adviser to the mayor, said in a statement.
Customers and parents on Facebook said that kids had come home from the movies with bite marks, CBS2's Lou Young reported.
"The Building Department has spoken with the operator, who has a regular pest management program in place, and has been advised that they are taking the additional, necessary measures to address the conditions for which they have been cited," Pasquale said.
Residents were revolted by the news.
"It's news to me, it's a shocker," one White Plains resident said. "That is disgusting."
But Michael Stolzer lives next door and said he's not scared off.
"I've never had a problem there, never seen any infestation of anything," Stolzer said, adding he will continue to go to the theater. "If my wife saw a mouse, we would be out of there so quickly we would set a speed record."
The theater was issued a notice of violation and has 30 days to address the problem, Pasquale said.
The city will issue a summons if the violation is not addressed or remedied in that time.
National Amusements, who owns the theater, said they have not been formally cited for violations and said their hired exterminators have given the place a clean bill of health.
The multiplex has a full restaurant and bar that passed county health inspections without serious problems.
