Where Are The Mets Fans? NYT Map Shows Total Yankees Domination
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Sorry, New York isn't a National League town. Not anymore, and not by a long shot.
According to an interactive fan map published by the New York Times, the Yankees own -- and we mean own -- their home city, state, and much of the surrounding Tri-State area.
The only competition is to the south-west, where the Philadelphia Phillies encroach on the bottom half of New Jersey, and the north-east, home of Connecticut's dividing line between the Bombers and Red Sox.
The Mets?
Um, nope. Zilch. There's no orange to be found. Not even in Queens.
According to the Times, the Yankees are the favored NY franchise in "more than 98 percent" of America's ZIP codes. A quick glance of the map shows not a single location in New York, New Jersey or Connecticut where the Mets are No. 1.

And if you're thinking Port St. Lucie -- where the Mets hold their spring training camp -- might be all about the Amazin's, you'd be wrong. That area of Florida prefers the Yankees, Red Sox and Miami Marlins, in that order.
The Yankees dominate with 53 percent of baseball fans pulling for the "Evil Empire" near the Mets' home ballpark in Flushing, Queens. The proud owners of Citi Field only have about a quarter of the fans in the surrounding ZIP codes.
The Times said it produced the map based on public information provided by Facebook.
