What Makes A Farm? Debate In Cortlandt Over Whether Property Can Be Classified As A Farm
CORTLANDT, NY (WCBS 880) - In a unanimous vote, the Cortlandt town board passed a resolution asking the Westchester County board not to allow a six-acre piece of property on Croton Avenue to be classified as a farm.

"We need to do everything we can to keep the farms that are in existence and can be in existence going forward," says county legislator Mike Kaplowitz. "Farms are a good thing, much better than track housing."
The property is owned by Daniel Muro. Kaplowitx says Muro's application still has to pass a six-point test, but so far it seems to check out.
"I'm scrutinizing, along with my colleagues, this particular application," Kaplowitz told WCBS 880 reporter Catherine Cioffi. "They grow rabbits and poultry and chicken. They grow vegetables and they grow, you know, various crops on the property."
A public hearing is scheduled for August 8.
