Westchester Holocaust Remembrance Garden Rededicated
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - Holocaust survivors and hundreds of others were expected to help rededicate the Garden of Remembrance in White Plains Sunday afternoon.
The garden, outside the Westchester County Building, honors New York survivors, recuers and liberators of the Holocaust.
The ceremony was being held by the Holocaust and Human Rights Education Center.
Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino was slated to give the keynote address and mayors from White Plains, New Rochelle and Mamaroneck were also expected to participate in the ceremony.
The garden walls are inscribed with the names of 26 places which Jews and other innocent victims of Nazi persecution were tortured and murdered. Other stones in the garden bear inscriptions of inspirational quotes from philosophers and authors, according to the HHREC website.
The new garden features 10,000 freshly planted flowers.
The ceremony will include a Jewish War Veterans color guard, traditional Kaddish prayers and candlelighting to mark the solemn occasion.
