Westchester County Warns Residents Of Rabid Bat Threat
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Westchester County has asked residents to be on the lookout for rabid bats.
As WCBS 880's Sean Adams reported Saturday, county officials said bats are now active, getting into attics and flying around in homes.

"We've tested over 127 bats," said John Hopper of the Westchester County Health Department. "Of those, two were positive this month so far. And we have six overall for the year."
Hopper said rabies is still a serious concern.
"Ninety-nine percent fatal," he said, "and it is 100 percent treatable, if you do the right things."
Two know for sure if you have been exposed to rabies, you must capture the bat, cover it with a container, slip cardboard between the surface that the bat is on in the container, double bag it, freeze it, and bring it to the Health Department.
