Westchester County Lawmakers Want To Know Why I-287 Project Isn't Complete
WHITE PLAINS, NY (WCBS 880) - The road work along I-287 has been stressing out drivers near White Plains for years. There has been noise, debris, and traffic delays.

Now, with about $544 million spent to date, State Assemblyman George Latimer and other state lawmakers are now calling on Gov. Andrew Cuomo to get to the bottom of what's going on.
"Of course, he is a Westchester County resident. I'm sure he's on I-287 as much as any of the rest of us are," Latimer said to WCBS 880 reporter Catherine Cioffi. "Who is watching this? Who is making sure that deadlines are being met, and if they're not being met, that there's a legitimate reason that they're not being met?"
Latimer says the project is more than two years behind schedule, millions over budget, and still has to reach I-95. He says taxpayers have a right to know what's going on.
"People in this economy are not going to accept business as usual. If we see a problem and it has evidence we have to address it, address it quickly, and fix what is broken," he said. "This is public money. It is, ultimately, money that comes out of your wallet and mine."
Latimer is joined in this effort by fellow State Assembly members Gary Pretlow, Amy Paulin, Robert J. Castelli, Sandra Galef, Thomas Abinanti, Michael Spano, and Dr. Steve Katz.
