Officials: West New York Apartment Complex Fire Sparked By Stove
WEST NEW YORK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Investigators have confirmed that a West New York apartment complex fire that left more than 40 families homeless started on a stove on the fifth floor.
The blaze began around 11 p.m. Friday. Police had to rescue the tenant in that unit on the top floor late, and other residents ran out, losing many or most of their possessions.
Part of the building on Hudson Avenue and 51st Street collapsed. Five firefighters were treated for minor injuries.
The Red Cross is helping 120 people displaced by the fire.
