Welcome To Chipper's?! NYC Pub Changes Name To Honor Mets Nemesis

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Mets fans got pretty riled up when it was revealed the Amazin's would "acknowledge" the career of longtime nemesis Chipper Jones during his final visit to Flushing.

The time has come.

And we're willing to bet fans really, really won't like this.

Foley's Pub and Restaurant in Midtown is changing its name to Chipper's for the duration of this weekend's three-game set between the Braves and Mets.

For many New Yorkers, the more appropriate name would have been Lar-ry's.

"Sometimes you have to tip your cap to your opponent," the watering hole said in its newsletter. "While Chipper has broken the hearts of many Mets fans over the years, New Yorkers are as knowledgeable as anyone and they know greatness when they see it -- even when it resulted in disappointment for their hometown team."

Foley's -- er, Chipper's -- will offer 10 varieties of chips to honor Jones' jersey number.

The soon-to-be-retired Mets killer has accepted various gifts and accolades during his farewell tour. The goings on at Citi Field "probably will not include a gift or on-field ceremony," the New York Daily News reported earlier this season. The Houston Astros, for example, gifted Jones a cowboy hat.

The Mets gave two former players -- Marlins shortstop Jose Reyes and Cardinals outfielder Carlos Beltran -- short video tributes this season. Going back to 2010, for his final series in Queens, the Mets presented former Braves manager Bobby Cox with a bottle of wine from the California vineyard of legendary New York pitcher Tom Seaver.

"It might be a recording of all my plate appearances where they announce my name," Jones joked earlier this season about his sendoff in Queens, "and the chorus of boos rained down."

Mets fans, here's your chance to sound off. Be heard in the comments below!
