The plan is for DePiero's Country Farm Market in Montvale to close and a Wegmans supermarket to open on half of the farm's 55 acres.
The full plan will go before the borough's zoning board in two weeks.
The farm has been there since 1924 and offers hay rides and pumpkin picking the fall, plus other events during the year.
Customers on Wednesday mourned the upcoming loss of DePiero's.
"It's a shame all these farmers are going out," one told Putney.
"If they keep the homeyness of the place, where we can just sit and chit-chat for a while, that would be great," said another.
