Wegmans To Open Store At Brooklyn Navy Yard
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Wegmans is expanding to its first New York City location.
The grocery chain said it plans to open a new 74,000-square-foot store at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
As 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria reported, Gigi has lived at the Farragut Houses across the street from the Navy Yard for the last 11 years and although she would love to see Wegmans open up, she doubts that will ever happen.

"I was interviewed about that like three years ago. They cut the ribbon, they said they were going to put a super market here by the Navy Yard and I still haven't seen it. Here it is three years and what's the problem, what's the hold up?" she said.
The developer said the store will open in 2017, D'Auria reported.
Tommy said whenever it does, it will be a whole lot better than shopping at the local bodega.
"The bodega up the street? The food's not fresh," he said. "I bought a lemon the other day and the thing was rotted out; the bananas' not good."
Wegmans said for the first two weeks of hiring, it will interview people exclusively from the surrounding public housing developments, D'Auria reported.
Sabrina said she couldn't be happier about it.
"We don't have no good grocery store over here anyway, so that's a good idea," she said. "And then hire in the community, there's a lot of unemployed people over here."
There could be as many as 200 full-time and 600 part-time jobs available.
