"I remember him being able to talk about how fast the Concorde went, how much fuel it carried, how much cargo it could have on board, and he said 'I'm going to be a pilot when I grow up' and he said 'Kiki, what are you going to be?'" Homer said.

Well, he did become a pilot, and he was one of the pilots aboard United 93 when it crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania on 9/11. The passengers on that flight fought back and stopped the hijackers from reaching Washington, DC.

Homer and more than a dozen other family members of Flight 93 victims will run the marathon through that Pennsylvania town to raise money for the memorial there.

"I think he would be happy. I think he would be proud. I think he would figure it's kind of neat that I'm doing this," she told WCBS 880 reporter Marla Diamond.

Homer admits the training has been painful.

"I try to imagine a little bit of what they must have gone through. You know, it helps me to put another foot forward," she said.

The team is wearing shirts that reflect the uncommon valor shown by the passengers of Flight 93. They read, "They never gave up and neither will we."

"I think about that and I know I will be thinking about it on race day and I think about it as I face various challenges in life. It's true, what they did for us, for the country, is fairly incredible," she said.
