WATCH: Robin Williams Cracks Up The Broadcast Booth At Shea In 1989
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- On Monday night, Billy Crystal gave a touching tribute to the late Robin Williams at the Emmy Awards.
In addition to being a fellow comedian, Williams was a longtime friend of Crystal's.
During the tribute, Crystal told a story about himself and Williams joining Tim McCarver in the broadcast booth during a Mets-Reds game at Shea Stadium in 1989.
It just so happens that there's footage of the 25-year-old broadcast.
Williams was a baseball novice at the time -- he would later become a huge San Francisco Giants fan -- and said on that day that this was only the second baseball game he'd ever attended. (His first game was about two weeks earlier.)
The lovable actor, who tragically died on August 11 at the age of 63, pretended he was Russian and had the entire booth cracking up. A foul ball came crashing into the booth and Williams snared it.
"America! What a country! America! Thank you for the ball! Thank you for the ball!"
Classic, brilliant Robin Williams.
