100 passengers rescued from disabled J train in Queens
NEW YORK -- Chopper 2 was over a disabled train on Tuesday afternoon in Queens, where passengers were later rescued.
The train, which was traveling on elevated tracks, got stuck between Jamaica Avenue and 131st Street at around 3 p.m. It was coming up from the underground Jamaica Center/Parsons-Archer station when it became disabled.
Chopper 2's Dan Rice reported seeing passengers in every car except the lead car. Firefighters were seen going car to car checking on the passengers. The FDNY said there were around 100 people on the train, but no injuries were reported.
The MTA dispatched a rescue train that got all the riders off the affected train.
Crews were continuing to investigate an apparent mechanical problem.
Due to the mishap, there was no J train service between Crescent Street and Jamaica Center/Parsons-Archer early Tuesday evening.
J train service resumed around 7:30 p.m. with severe delays in both directions.
