WATCH: Harlem Globetrotter Sets Record For Longest Basketball Shot
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- We have a new world record for longest basketball shot, courtesy Corey "Thunder" Law of the Harlem Globetrotters.
Law drained an attempt 109 feet, 9 inches from the basket at at U.S. Airways Center in Phoenix, Guinness World Records announced Thursday.
Guinness said three Globetrotters alternated shots on Thursday for an hour, and Law "was the only one to come close."
"I didn't know what to think at first, because I had never tried a shot from that distance before," Law told the Globetrotters' official website. "It seemed nearly impossible."
The previous record of 104 feet, 7 inches was set in Feb. 2011.
The Globetrotters made headlines earlier this week when William "Bull" Bullard was nearly crushed by by a collapsing hoop in Honduras. Bullard was shaken up but managed to avoid serious injury.
The Globetrotters are scheduled to make multiple stops in the Tri-State area during their North American tour early next year.
