WATCH: Gov. Christie Admits That He Loves The Mets, But They 'Stink'
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- There are a lot of professional sports team in the Tri-State Area, and it can be difficult to choose a favorite.
Have you ever wondered which teams Governor Chris Christie has allegiances to? If so, you're in luck.
While speaking at Samsel Upper Elementary School in Parlin, N.J., on Tuesday, the governor was asked by a student to name his favorite basketball team, baseball team and football team.
Christie started off his answer by stating that his favorite basketball team is the Knicks. (Clearly he wasn't going to say the Nets after they bolted Newark for Brooklyn.)
And then the bombshell ... the governor admitted that his favorite baseball team is the Mets, which resulted in a mixture of cheers and boos.
"These are probably Yankees fans, right, that are booing?" Christie asked. "Are those Yankees fans that are booing? Here's what I don't understand about Yankees fans. The Mets stink. We're awful. And the Yankees are usually really good. So why do you boo us? You should feel badly for us. We root for this awful team that never wins, and yet the Yankees fans boo us. I don't understand that."
When it came to football, the governor knew that he would ruffle some feathers, but he gave the students his honest opinion.
"The last answer is one of the things that gets all of my political advisors nervous," Christie said. "So get ready for a nervous moment ... for them, they're going to get nervous now. Because my favorite football team is not the New York Giants, it's not the New York Jets and it's not the Philadelphia Eagles. Get ready now. My favorite football team is the Dallas Cowboys."
The governor also admitted that he's a New York Rangers fan. But in his defense, he said, the Devils weren't in existence when he was growing up.
