WATCH: Bronx Zoo Flamingo Hatchling Takes First Steps
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A Caribbean flamingo hatchling took its first steps at the Bronx Zoo.
The zoo posted a video of the baby bird's maiden voyage on Wednesday.
The baby bird isn't quite steady enough for the famous one-legged stance. The video showed the chick being helped to its feet by its mother on a nest mound in the pond outside of the Wildlife Conservation Society zoo's Aquatic Birds exhibit.
Flamingos are hatched with white feathers but develop their trademark pink color over time through their diet.
The Bronx Zoo Aquatic Birds exhibit is open year-round.
