Warning: Cell Phone E-Mail Is A Fraud
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - If you received an e-mail saying cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketers on January 31, hit delete.

"There is no truth to this whatsoever," said Nur Al-Haq, an attorney with the Federal Trade Commission.
In fact, the Federal Communications Commission made it illegal for telemarketers to call customers on their cell phones.
"To the extent the FCC rule applies, those predicted dialers cannot be used to contact consumers on their cell phones. So, consumers should not be receiving any telemarketing calls on their cell phones at all," he said.
But if you want extra reassurance, Al-Haq says cell phone numbers can be added to the do not call registry by visiting www.donotcall.gov.
The reason for the original rule was that many cell phone customers were being charged for incoming calls.
