Wanted: Upper West Side Mystery 'Meanie'; Careful, Said To Be Very Mean
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It's a story that could only happen in New York City.
As CBS 2's Scott Rapoport reports, a self-described victim has put up posters in his neighborhood warning others and telling of his plight.
And what was his plight you ask?
He's trying to warn everyone about a mystery meanie.
His face is plastered on makeshift posters on the Upper West Side around 96th Street and Columbus, but it's his child that's being accused of rude behavior.
Yep, it's all spelled out on the handmade flyer, which was put up by a mystery victim of said rude behavior who has yet to come forward.
The complaint reads: "His kid knocked my sunglasses out of my hand."
And the kid apparently stepped on them, breaking the lens and frame costing $150.
What's worse, the man's child did not apologize.
"I feel like this person has a lot of free time on their hands to make this photo," said Weslee Yacker of the Upper East Side.
At the bottom of the flyer there's a chilling warning: "Be careful … this is not a nice man."
"He's gotta do something. I guess he feels like nobody's doing nothing so he wants to do something. So he's doing something," said Daniel Richardson of the Upper West Side.
There's no word yet on the identity of the alleged ocular offender or the sidewalk victim vigilante who's trying to out him.
Resident Samantha Kaiser told Rapoport she doesn't know the man, but seemed poised to make a citizen's arrest if need be.
"I have no idea, but if I see him I'll be sure to know he's not a nice man," resident Samantha Kaiser said.
And in a congested city of 8 million people, where civility and manners are sometimes lacking, one man has apparently had enough.
Rapoport contacted the NYPD, which said it has received no reports of sunglass smashing on the Upper West Side to date, and that it only responds to cases in which a police report is filed.
