Wandering Bear Makes North Jersey Residents Anxious
TENAFLY, NJ (WCBS 880) - Tenafly is a tony suburb across from the Bronx and a stone's throw away from the George Washington Bridge.
LISTEN: WCBS 880's Sean Adams reports
Folks there aren't used to seeing bears in their backyards.
At around 8 p.m. Monday night, a medium-sized black bear wandered into a playground at the Jewish Community Center.
"It was basically rooting around for food and we did notify the JCC not to let anybody out until the bear had wandered off," Tenafly Police Lt. Paul Cantwell told WCBS 880 reporter Sean Adams. "We did have several patrol cars up there in the area, keeping eye contact with it and making sure it was going to go back into our woods, which is our Nature Center / Green Acres area."
No one was hurt. Wildlife officials have been notified.
In the meantime, folks have been told they need to be bear aware.
