Wake Set For Bronx Bodega Worker Reynaldo Cuevas
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A wake will be held Tuesday for the bodega worker who was accidentally shot by a police officer while fleeing a gunpoint robbery in the Bronx.
The wake for Reynaldo Cuevas will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Ortiz Funeral Home in Washington Heights. His funeral will be held later this week in the Dominican Republic.
Cuevas was frantically fleeing from a robbery inside Natalie Grocery in the Morrisania section when he plowed into a police officer who had his gun drawn, authorities said. Cuevas and the officer tumbled to the sidewalk and the officer's gun went off.
Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said officers at the scene immediately began to try to save Cuevas, but he later died at the hospital. He said the events "transpired in a matter of seconds."
Prosecutors said they've filed murder charges against three suspects accused of taking part in the armed robbery.
