W Trains Back In Service For First Time In 6 Years
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The W subway line from Queens to lower Manhattan is back in service after a six-year absence due to MTA budget cuts.
W trains began running Monday morning for the first time since 2010. They are making stops from Astoria-Ditmars Boulevard to Whitehall Street in the Financial District and will only run from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekdays.
Now, Q trains will only run through Brooklyn and Manhattan, with the last stop at 57th Street and 7th Avenue and during the week, N trains are now running express.
All of the changes are in an effort to prepare for the long-awaited 2nd Avenue subway line to open at the end of December. Once it does, Q train service will resume on the new tracks.
