Visitors Brave Heat, Long Lines For Chance To View MoMA Exhibit
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Large crowds are braving the heat for a chance to see The Museum of Modern Art's newest exhibit.
Visitors say they are waiting up to nine hours to enter the Rain Room, an interactive exhibit in which water rains down except where sensors detect people.
"You don't get wet so you wait all this time to not get wet," one visitor told WCBS 880's Marla Diamond. "You pray you get wet, with the weather like this."

Part of what contributes to the long line is the exhibit's limited capacity and the artist's intention that there be no time restrictions once inside.
"There is a polite sign that says, 'please consider a visit of less than ten minutes' and I honestly think most people do," said MoMA's Megan Johnson.
You can cut the wait time by just viewing the exhibit instead of interacting with it. Johnson said the museum is also providing umbrellas to help shade visitors who are waiting in line.
The Rain Room is open daily during regular museum hours and runs until July 28.
